In this month's edition of our lean newsletter, we will be talking about heijunka, which means leveling work. Although it is one of the least discussed concepts of lean, the principle of heijunka is critical to success in achieving lean value streams. In fact, pull systems do not function properly without heijunka. Please see below for several videos and articles related to this topic.

Our 3-day blended-learning Lean Manufacturing Certification program in San Diego willl take place on May 14-16, 2013. To receive the early registration discount, you must register by April 14th. Featured Topic: Heijunka

Lean is about providing customers with a defect free product or service when it is needed and in the right quantity. A common problem that many organizations experience is "unevenness" in output from hour to hour or day to day. This condition causes problems throughout the entire value stream. The principle of heijunka is key to creating value streams that truly can provide the customer with what they need when they need it with very little waste.
